Welcome from Head of Legal

Thank you for your interest in our roles in Legal Services at Bury Metropolitan Borough Council.

Bury Council is committed to the provision of in-house Legal Services.  We have recently made a significant financial investment into our Legal Services team and substantially increased the number of posts.  This is an exciting development given the recognised financial pressures across Local Government as a whole and demonstrates the value we place in first-class Legal Services.

Our Legal Services function is varied, we have three departments Commercial & Litigation covering Contracts, Litigation, Licensing, Employment and Housing, Economies & Environment covering Planning and Property Law and Social Care covering children and adults. We strive for excellence in the delivery of our services to our clients, while supporting long term career development at Bury. We have six team members undertaking apprenticeships to further their career opportunities and five undertaking or have undertaken a bespoke Management Development Course. We invest in you and your career in a fair and flexible working environment.

Bury Council has a population of approximately 190,000 with plenty of character including its World Famous Bury Market in the heart of Bury, its beautiful scenery at Burrs Country Park and Peel Tower, plus theatres, museums, and Bury Art Gallery, to name but a few attractions.

At Bury, we contribute to local communities and make a difference to those who live and work in the Borough. We have big ambitions, clear values and a good track record in delivering for our residents and businesses.  There are a whole range of major development projects, from new leisure and civic facilities, developing our town centres, and new housing, driving regeneration in partnership with some of the biggest names in the development industry.

We work closely with Greater Manchester Combined Authority to share opportunities to develop, sustain and improve local services,
